Priyansh Arya, the Punjab Kings opener, set the stage on fire on Tuesday as he notched up a brilliant century against the Chennai Super Kings. The left-hander showed class and skills throughout his innings and powered his team to a strong total of 219.

Priyansh Arya scores 103

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Punjab Kings made full use of the surface early on. However, the effort seemed to be one-sided as wickets kept falling on one end. On the other end, Priyansh Arya stood tall and kept hitting balls out of the ground. Prabhsimran, one of the PBKS openers, was out on a duck in the second over. However, Priyansh continued and scored a century.

Wickets falling

Priyansh saw wickets falling on the other end throughout his stay. Five batters were out for single-digit scores in the inning. PBKS were 83/5 at the 8-over mark. Shreyas Iyer, Marcus Stoinis, Nehal Wadhera, Glenn Maxwell and Prabhsimran were the batters dismissed.

Priyansh explodes

However, it was time for Priyansh Arya to show his skills. The left-hand batter took the attack to CSK bowlers, hitting 7 fours and 9 sixes. He started his inning with a six off the first ball against Khaleel Ahmed too. He scored the century off just 39 balls. However, he was dismissed by spinner Noor Ahmad the next over for 103 (42). In his innings, Arya struck every bowler and scored at a strike rate of 245.24. He hit fast bowler Pathirana three consecutive sixes in the 13th over. It was the maiden IPL century for Arya and also his first 50 plus score in the tournament.

PBKS score 219

With the help of Priyansh Arya’s century, Shashank Singh’s half-century and a cameo of 34 runs by Marco Jansen, PBKS crossed the 200 mark. They were able to score 219/6 in 20 overs. The CSK batters are looking to chase down the total now, but it is going to be a tough task.
