Rings of Power Star Charlie Vickers Reveals Virat Kohli as Favorite Cricketer

In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Australian actor Charlie Vickers, known for his role in the hit series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, opened up about his fondness for cricket and his admiration for Indian cricketing legend Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli: A Cricketing Icon

When asked about his favorite cricketer outside of the Australian team, Vickers didn’t hesitate to name Virat Kohli. “I once walked by Virat Kohli in a hotel in Auckland, and that was really surreal. So I’ll say him because of that encounter,” he revealed.

However, the actor admitted that he was too nervous to approach Kohli during their chance meeting. “No, I was too nervous,” he confessed when asked if he had the opportunity to greet the cricketing superstar.

Vickers also shared his introduction to the world of Bollywood, which came through former Australian cricketer Brett Lee. “There was an Australian fast bowler named Brett Lee, who became quite big in the Bollywood scene as a musician. Brett Lee is my window into Bollywood; I have to learn more about it,” he said.

Missed Opportunity to Visit India

Although the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power visited India during the promotions of the first season, Vickers couldn’t join them. However, he expressed his regret at missing out on the experience. “I was in Mexico City when they were in Mumbai, and it was an amazing trip to Mexico City. But the Mumbai trip, that half of the cast, speaks so fondly of their time there. It’s become famous among the cast for how good the trip was,” he shared.

In the same interview, Charles Edwards, another star from Rings of Power, who had the opportunity to visit India in 2022, shared his recommendation for Vickers. “I would ring the Taj Mahal Hotel and request them to please arrange the lunch they arranged for us before. I would take Charlie there because he missed it the last time,” Edwards said.

Vickers, acknowledging the missed opportunity, replied, “I’ve heard a lot about it though, and I’ve seen the photos as well.” Edwards then added, “We did a photoshoot on the roof of the hotel. It was quite windy, but it was a very special thing for them to do for us. And I would love for Charlie to experience that.”

As The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power prepares to premiere on August 29 on Prime Video, fans eagerly await the return of this epic fantasy series. Meanwhile, Charlie Vickers continues to captivate audiences with his talent and his genuine appreciation for Indian cricket and culture.
