Shubman Gill Reflects on His Century and Mellow Celebration

Shubman Gill, the star Indian batter, delivered a remarkable performance in the second Test against England, scoring 104 runs off 147 deliveries. His century was a significant turnaround after a period of poor form, which had led to scrutiny of his place in the Test side. Despite this milestone, Gill’s celebration was subdued, reflecting his focus on the task at hand.

“I thought the job was not done. That’s why it was a mellow celebration. I was taking one ball at a time, obviously there was a lot happening in and around the crease, a couple of wickets, then me and Shreyas had a good partnership and decided that if the ball is there to be hit, we’ll hit, otherwise we’ll keep trying to rotate the strike,” Gill explained to the press.

Gill credited the support he received from skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and the batting coach for helping him regain his form and achieve his third Test century. This support has been instrumental in keeping him motivated and focused on his game.

“The support that I got from Rohit bhai and Dravid sir has been magnificent and also from the batting coach… That has always kept me motivated,” Gill said.
