Gautam Gambhir was born on
October 14, 1981, in
New Delhi, India. His father,
Deepak Gambhir, was a businessman, while his mother,
Seema Gambhir, was a homemaker. He was adopted by his
maternal grandparents just days after birth and lived with them for most of his childhood.
Gambhir attended
Modern School, New Delhi, where he developed an early interest in cricket. At just
10 years old, he started training under
Sanjay Bharadwaj at the
Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy. His uncle,
Pawan Gulati, played a significant role in his cricketing journey, guiding him throughout his career.
In
2000, he was selected for the
National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, marking the beginning of his professional cricket journey.

Gambhir made his
first-class debut for Delhi in 1999, consistently performing in domestic tournaments. His breakthrough came in
