India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has dismissed speculation of unrest in the dressing room following the team’s 184-run defeat to Australia in the MCG Test. Speaking at a pre-match press conference on January 2, Gambhir assured that the mood in the Indian camp is positive and that the squad remains united despite the setback.
Gautam Gambhir Addresses Dressing Room Leaks
“Everything is fine. Team first. It’s a team game, and everyone understands this,” Gambhir stated firmly.
The rumours gained traction after reports hinted at tensions within the team, claiming that Gautam Gambhir had reprimanded players for not adapting to match situations. However, the former Indian captain was quick to clarify that any discussions in the dressing room are strictly private and should not be misconstrued.

“Debates between a player and a coach should stay between them. Any conversations in the dressing room should stay in the dressing room,” he added.
Questions Over Rohit Sharma’s Spot
The spotlight remains on Rohit Sharma, whose underwhelming form has sparked debates about his inclusion in the playing XI for the final Test. Gambhir, however, refused to reveal any details.
“We are going to have a look at the wicket and announce the playing XI tomorrow,” Gambhir said when asked about Rohit’s place.
Rohit’s performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy have been disappointing. In five innings, the skipper has managed only 31 runs, averaging a dismal 6.20. This marks the lowest for a touring captain in Australia with a minimum of five innings.
If Rohit is dropped, Shubman Gill is expected to replace him as opener. Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lead the team in his absence.
Australia Finalizes Playing XI
Meanwhile, Australia has announced their playing XI for the Sydney Test. Captain Pat Cummins confirmed that all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been dropped, making way for Beau Webster’s Test debut.
“Mitchell Starc is fit and will play,” Cummins added, putting to rest concerns about Starc’s back issues.
India currently trails 1-2 in the series. They face a must-win scenario at Sydney to keep their World Test Championship Final hopes alive. Hence, the pressure is high for India.
