WV Rajman explains why reserve bench is not for Karun Nair

Karun Nair has been phenomenal in recent times and therefore his selection for the Champions Trophy has been a point of discussion. While Tendulkar praised the in-form batter, former India women’s head coach explained why at33, Nair should not be at the reserve bench.

Karun Nair has already scored 752 runs in just seven innings with five centuries. No wonder, Karun Nair has been making headlines since last few days. With the BCCI set to announce Champions Trophy squad on Saturday, Karun Nair’s form makes the whole situation interesting. Nair, on the other hand, will be playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy final today against Karnataka. 

Will Karun Nair be picked for Champions Trophy?

With injury threats looming over, the board is likely to prefer bowlers and all-rounders as reserves for the ICC tournament. Bumrah’s inclusion is subject to match-fitness just like Mohammad Shami and Kuldeep Yadav. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya’s injury has also been a concern for the side. Therefore, despite an outstanding form, the Vidarbha captain therefore might miss the bus this time.

“Everyone hopes to be part of the Indian cricket team because it’s such an amazing setup. Everyone wants to play for their country. And so do I. I have always believed and dreamed of playing for my country again,” said Karun Nair after one of his brilliant innings recently.

Meanwhile WV Raman, former India women’s head coach has a different take on Karun Nair. Raman explained why Nair should not be picked if there is no place for him. “#KarunNair is not in his teens to be in the reserves and watched by the team management. If he is picked, he plays given the form he is in, or if there is no slot for him, he should not be picked,” WV Raman wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
