After the cricket fans experienced the Men’s T20 World Cup, they are on their way to witness another thrilling tournament. The Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to happen on October 3. Bangladesh was set to host the prestigious tournament. However, the political tension in the country is raising questions about their arrangements. As per sources, Zimbabwe has shown interest in arranging the Women’s T20 World Cup in October.
Bangladesh’s Challenges to Host the Tournament:
Another thrilling T20 tournament is coming back. After witnessing the Men’s T20 World Cup, cricket enthusiasts across the globe are now all set to witness the Women’s T20 World Cup. As the tournament is set to go on stage on October 3, Bangladesh was all set to host the event.
The ICC is considering a venue change due to recent violence and security issues in Bangladesh. Anti-government protests have resulted in deaths and the removal of the Sheikh Hasina government. These events have raised concerns about safety, prompting discussions about relocating upcoming events to ensure secure conditions.
A source said, “The ICC is closely monitoring developments in co-ordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB], their security agencies and our own independent security consultants. Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants.”
Zimbabwe Has Shown Interest:
Zimbabwe has emerged as one of two possible hosts for the Women’s T20 World Cup this year. The tournament, originally set to start on October 3 in Bangladesh, may be moved due to recent anti-government protests and resulting security concerns. The UAE is the other potential host after India decided not to bid.
A decision is expected from the ICC board on Tuesday, August 20. Zimbabwe is showing interest as part of its effort to become a major cricket destination. The country has previously hosted the ODI World Cup Qualifiers in 2018 and 2023, which adds to its credentials.
Zimbabwe Set to Deliver All the Facilities:
Zimbabwe is considering Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo as venues for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. These venues, which have newly installed floodlights, previously hosted big matches during last year’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Additional games were streamed from Takashinga Sports Club and Bulawayo Athletic Club. With Zimbabwe entering summer in October, the country expects favorable weather conditions, with minimal rain.
Zimbabwe anticipates drawing good crowds, including school children, to its venues, which can hold up to 10,000 spectators. Zimbabwe also hopes that the lower costs associated with hosting the tournament in their country compared to the UAE will strengthen their bid when the final decision is made.
