In the 16th season of the Indian Premier League, rookie opener Yashasvi Jaiswal of the Rajasthan Royals has played some outstanding cricket. The 21-year-old is presently fourth in the IPL Orange Cap race with 625 runs scored in 14 games at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61.
Despite the fact that the cricketer’s side was unable to advance to the playoffs, he was praised by a number of former players, including AB de Villiers, who chose Jaiswal as his favorite player of the IPL 2023.
Jaiswal was playing an aggressive type of cricket, which is perfect for the shortest version of the game, in addition to consistently scoring runs. The cricketer’s aggressive batting style was highly praised after he scored the fastest half-century in IPL history against Kolkata Knight Riders. Speaking about the same, de Villiers noted that the batsman from Uttar Pradesh is very composed and serene, which helps him perform well. He also has all the shots in his arsenal.
De Villiers talks about Jaiswal
“Yashasvi Jaiswal for me and by a long margin for sure. He is a young player and has got all the shots in the book. He has a calm and composed temperament at the wicket and I love what he does, dominating the bowlers and always looks like he is in control,” de Villiers said while talking to JioCinema.
“Shubman Gill is a little bit older, I think Jaiswal’s got a long way to go, and he has all the credentials to become a great,” he further added.
Rajasthan Royals, who had won just three of their previous nine games in the IPL, came in sixth on the standings. In other games, their batting appeared wobbly because Jos Buttler was unable to have a significant influence. No middle-order hitter could contribute much aside from Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer, therefore the team will be aiming to improve in the upcoming season.
