Arshdeep Singh went past Yuzvendra Chahal to become India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. The left-arm pacer took his 97th wicket in the first T20I against England and etched his name in history.
Arshdeep Singh removed England opener Ben Duckett to become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is. Arshdeep pitched up the ball and it seamed away slightly from Duckett. Duckett was looking to get it across and ended up getting a leading edge. The ball went up in the air towards the cover region. Rinku Singh, stationed at covers, ran back and made the catch look easy.

Duckett became Arshdeep’s 97th wicket in T20 Internationals. Arshdeep started the game with 95 wickets to his name. His 96th scalp was another England opener, Phil Salt. Arshdeep dismissed Salt for a duck in the first over of the game.
Arshdeep bowled a shorter ball to Salt and it seemed the English opener was taken back by the bounce of the ball. Salt ended up edging the ball behind the stumps with Sanju Samson completing a clean catch.
Earlier, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to bowl first. “We will look to bowl first. The wicket looks sticky, there will be dew later on. It will be heavier later on. The boys have been amazing. The preparations have been good, looking forward to this series. It’s going to be great competition between both the sides.”, Suryakumar said at the time of the toss.
It is worth noting that India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami, who was poised for an international comeback in this match, was not included in India’s Playing XI. The team decided to go with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to strengthen their batting depth.
