WPL 2023

In 2023, the women’s cricket witnessed a new beginning. That year, the Women’s Premier League was introduced to the cricket world. With that T20 league brought a new aspect of women’s cricket. The tournament was inaugurated with five teams. Fans enjoyed an exciting tournament. 

The Exciting Group Stage:

In the inaugural edition of the tournament, five teams started the journey together. The tournament witnessed a total of 20 group-stage games. Five teams locked horns throughout the group stage and made the tournament more interesting. After having an exciting group stage, UP Warriorz, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals qualified for the next stage. 

Delhi Capital’s Direct Entry in the Final:

Following an exciting group stage, the Delhi Capitals secured a spot in the Final without needing to play in the playoffs. They clinched their place by defeating the UP Warriorz, moving directly to the championship match.

The Playoff Face-Off:

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz locked horns in the playoffs. In that do-or-die game, Mumbai Indians showcased their excellence and dominated the Warriorz throughout the match. By their masterclass, they won the match and qualified for the final match. 

The Champion of WPL 2023:

In the WPL 2023 final, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals locked horns. After having an amazing tournament, both teams locked horns in the final game. In the final match, fans enjoyed a nail-biting game. But Mumbai Indians showcased their outstanding class in the game. They defeated Delhi Capitals and became the first-ever champion of the Women’s Premier League. 

Player of the Match in the WPL 2023 Final: 

Natalie Sciver Brunt: in the final game, Natalie Sciver Brunt played a crucial role in securing the victory. Her knock in the final match was an asset to the team. She was unbeaten till the end and sealed the win. For that incredible contribution, she was awarded the Player of the Match. 

Player of the Tournament in the WPL 2023:

Hayley Matthews: Hayley Matthews became the Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition of the tournament. While playing for the Mumbai Indians, she played a crucial role in the entire season. She played some match-winning knocks for her team. For that immense contribution, she ended up winning the Player of the Tournament Award in 2023.
