Women’s cricket in India is starting a new chapter today. After more than 10 years of ambiguity, the Women’s Premier League will be the women’s league in India. Gujarat, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, and UP are the five participating teams in the competition.
The league’s inaugural game, between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians, is set to be an entertaining one at the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai. Today’s match is made even more exciting by the presence of notable players on both sides and the teams’ strong chemistry.
In the history of women’s sports, this is a momentous day. The WPL has provided young girls with a platform to achieve their goals and transform their lives.
The hype and excitement around the marquee event are unparalleled. Everybody is waiting for the tournament to start. Many cricketers are excited about the league and have wished the teams the best of luck for the inaugural edition of the WPL.

Ahead of the first match, the mega superstar of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has wished the cricketers luck.
In a video posted on JioCinema’s Twitter page, captain cool was quoted saying, “It’s time for the women to take over. I am cheering for W (makes a hand gesture forming a ‘W’ sign), what about you?”
Everybody hoped that CSK would buy a team in the Women’s IPL. The Chennai Super Kings never purchased the Invitation To Tender (ITT) for bidding nor did they formally declare an interest in purchasing any of the five franchises. The Super Kings club owners reportedly decided against making a bid for several tactical reasons, according to Cricbuzz.
In addition to two playoff games, the WPL will play a total of 20 regular-season games. All 22 games will be played within a month due to the final being scheduled on March 26. On India’s Sports18 Network, the WPL 2023 will be broadcast live. It will be live-streamed on the JioCinema app and website.
