Digvesh Rathi repeated his controversial celebration during the match against Mumbai Indians on Friday. As a result, he was once again fined and earned two demerit points.

Rathi fines, yet again

Digvesh Rathi, the Lucknow Super Giants spinner was fined 50 percent of his match fees and given two demerit points. He repeated his ‘writing in my notebook’ celebrations after taking the wicket of Naman Dhir. Rathi had first committed the ‘mistake’ during the match against Punjab Kings against Priyansh Arya.

As a result, he was fined 25 percent of his match fees and given one demerit point in the earlier occasion. Interestingly, Rathi became the player of the match in the same match for his spell of 4-0-21-1. His economy rate was just 5.25 on a day when no other LSG bowlers could deliver at less than 10 runs per over.

According to the IPL Code of Conduct, once a player earns four demerit points, end up earning one suspension point. Rathi already earned two demerit points. This teams two more demerit points and he will have to sit out for one match. These demerit points remain on an individual’s record for a period of 36 months.

Pant fined too

Meanwhile, even LSG captain Rishabh Pant was fined for team’s slow over-rates. He became the third captain to be fined for the same in IPL 2025 after Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians and Riyan Parag of Rajasthan Royals. Although Pant was fined 12 lakhs, LSG ended by winning the match against Mumbai Indians by 12 runs.
Lucknow Super Giants scored 203/8, thanks to 60 off 31 by Mitchell Marsh and 53 off 38 by Aiden Markram.

For Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav came up with 67 off 43 as Naman Dhir (46 off 24) and Hardik Pandya (28* off 16) added valuable runs. However, Mumbai eventually fell short of a few runs at the end and LSG went ahead MI in the Points Table.
