Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will don their special green jerseys, made from recycled fabric, when they face Rajasthan Royals in an IPL 2025 fixture at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur this Sunday. This marks the first appearance of the eco-friendly jersey this season — part of RCB’s broader initiative to champion sustainability and environmental awareness.
The franchise, known for being a carbon-neutral team, uses this annual gesture to remind fans of the importance of conservation, aligning with Bengaluru’s identity as the ‘Garden City.’
Rajesh Menon, COO of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, emphasized the significance of this campaign.
“For us, it’s about being bold — both on and off the pitch. Our green jerseys are more than a symbol; they’re a call to action,” said Menon. “Through this initiative, we want to leverage the cultural and social influence of RCB to raise awareness and inspire fans to take simple steps towards environmental conservation.”
RCB’s sustainability mission extends beyond just apparel. The franchise actively conducts regular carbon audits to measure and track its ecological footprint — covering everything from stadium emissions and spectator travel to the team’s logistics and accommodation.
The team has implemented a series of eco-friendly measures, including waste management and segregation at the stadium, utilization of renewable energy sources like solar-powered lighting and wind energy, and comprehensive assessments of their travel and operational emissions.
RCB also evaluates the environmental impact of team travel, staff accommodation, and waste generated during matches, ensuring every facet of their IPL operations contributes to the long-term goal of becoming a carbon-positive franchise.
As RCB prepares for their clash in Jaipur, the green jersey serves as a powerful visual reminder of the growing intersection between sport and sustainability — proving cricket can be a meaningful platform for ecological advocacy.
