After Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered yet another home defeat in IPL 2025 — this time against Delhi Capitals — former New Zealand cricketer and popular commentator Simon Doull offered an unexpected solution: change dressing rooms at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB’s latest loss marked their 45th defeat at Chinnaswamy, the most by any IPL franchise at a single venue. Despite solid away performances this season, including wins over CSK, MI, and KKR, their home curse continues to haunt them.
“Just Change Dressing Rooms”: Doull’s Unusual but Thoughtful Suggestion
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Simon Doull proposed that RCB switch to the away dressing room for upcoming home games — a tactic once reportedly adopted by Chennai Super Kings.
“Take all the signage down from the dressing room and move it to the other one. Just change dressing rooms! It sounds so silly, but sometimes a simple change in scenery can make a big difference,” Doull said.
The suggestion, while lighthearted, hints at psychological factors affecting RCB’s home performances, with Doull emphasizing that even subtle changes could help shake off the losing mindset.
In their clash against Delhi Capitals, RCB posted 163/7, thanks to quickfire knocks from Phil Salt (37 off 17) and Tim David (37 off 20)*. However, it proved insufficient.
DC chased the target comfortably, riding on an unbeaten 111-run partnership between KL Rahul (93 off 53)* and Tristan Stubbs (38 off 23)* after being reduced to 58/4.
With this loss, RCB’s win-loss ratio at Chinnaswamy dropped to 0.977, a stark contrast to their away form and a glaring statistic among IPL teams. In comparison, Delhi Capitals have 44 losses at their home venue, and KKR have 38 at Eden Gardens.
While Doull’s advice may sound unconventional, cricket has often seen superstitions and psychology play a key role in team turnarounds. Whether RCB’s management takes this to heart remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — something has to change if RCB are to leverage their home advantage.
