In a tussle between strongholds of cricket in the largest state of the country, the IPL franchise has come into the limelight. Jaideep Bihani has levelled fixing allegations against the team after its poor form. RR has come out with a statement, denying the charges. A BCCI official has deemed the entire affair a publicity stunt ahead of the RCA elections.
Jaideep Bihani, co-convener of the ad hoc committee of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), is a BJP MLA from Ganganagar. He gave an interview to Dainik Bhaskar, levelling charges against many. He said, “It was the home ground, they had to make few runs in the last over…anything can happen where tickets are being sold in black.”
Bihani made allegations against RR vice president Rajeev Khanna and urged for an investigation into the matter. He also alleged that the “RR management, in collusion with the RSSC and The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is attempting to exclude RCA from participating in IPL.
Rajasthan Royals answered the fixing allegations and said they were completely false. The governing body of the team, Royal Multisport Private Limited (RMPL), said that Bohani’s statements are false, baseless and devoid of any evidence.
They wrote the letter to the RSSC Chairperson, Niraj K Pawan. Pawan is the Secretary in the Sports and Youth Affairs Department of the Rajasthan government.
RMPL has urged the state government to curb and restrain such conduct. It said that, “These public allegations cause significant reputational damage, fuel unnecessary controversy, and attempt to mislead the public. They also serve to undermine the credibility of RMPL, the RR franchise, RSSC, BCCI, and the sport of cricket itself.”
Niraj K Paswan issued a statement himself. He said, “It is regrettable. It should not be so. If anyone has any evidence, then they should inform the appropriate agencies as IPL is a BCCI format and they don’t compromise with their set format… BCCI is very strict with its rules and takes very strict measures. We believe that anything like match-fixing wouldn’t have happened in Rajasthan, and that is what the Rajasthan Royals have said too (in their letter).”
Meanwhile, it is being said that an official from the BCCI has said, “RCA is currently dissolved. An ad-hoc committee has been formed, with the elections approaching, there is a lot of drama. Everyone wants attention – The BCCI has an anti-corruption unit working 24×7 to keep bad elements away from the game. There is no truth to these allegations”
