Georgia Voll replaces Chamari Athapaththu in UPW for remainder of WPL

On Thursday UP Warriorz named Georgia Voll as replacement for Chamari Athapaththu. The Australia batter replaced Athapaththu who is going to miss the final phase of the WPL 2025 due to national duties.

Voll replaces Athapaththu

Athapaththu did not play a single match this season for the UP Warrirorz. The side will play their game on March 3 which will be their first game this season in Lucknow. Athapaththu was supposed to be available for UPW only till yesterday for the game against Mumbai Indians in Bangalore. Meanwhile, she has been named to lead Sri Lanka in the white-ball series against New Zealand from March 4. Sri Lankan team is scheduled to play three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals in New Zealand.

UP Warriorz (UPW) have therefore named Australia top-order batter Georgia Voll as replacement for Chamari Athapaththu. The 21-year-old has only played three T20Is so far. Before debuting against England in January, she was Sydney Thunder’s second-highest run-getter at WBBL 2024-25, with 330 runs at a strike rate of 144. Voll has also played three ODIs and one Test for Australia. In her second ODI she scored a century against  in December. She ended as the highest run-scorer in that series with 173 runs at an average of 86.50. Voll joins UPW for INR 30 lakh.

UPW lose to MI

UP Warriorz are currently standing in the fourth place of the WPL points table after losing their last match to Mumbai. Thanks to the all-round performance by Nat-Sciver Brunt, Mumbai Indian won the match by eight wickets with 18 balls remaining. At first she helped to restrict UP Warriorz to 142/9 by taking three wickets for 18 runs in her four overs. Then with the bat, she scored an unbeaten 75 off 44 to complete the chase in just 17 overs. Hayley Matthews scored 59 as well.

UP Warriorz have won two out of five matches they played in WPL so far. Mumbai Indians are topping the chart with three wins.
