Mohammed Kaif Lauds Rishabh Pant for His Captaincy in IPL 2025

Former India batter Mohammed Kaif has praised LSG skipper and star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. He has appreciated him for his outstanding captaincy skills in IPL 2025. Kaif also recalled Pant’s smart tactics during the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa.

The former cricketer highlighted Pant’s ability to use his players wisely to win tight matches this season. Currently, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) sit in sixth place on the points table, with five wins and four defeats from nine games.

“They are coming off three wins in their last five games. Rishabh Pant has been doing good captaincy in IPL 2025. He has optimised his resources very well, working with a young bowler like Avesh Khan, a rookie in Digvesh Rathi, and a replacement player like Shardul Thakur — still managing to win big games by close margins,” said Kaif on Star Sports.

Kaif also mentioned Pant’s ability to help his bowlers in pressure moments. He told about how Pant supported Avesh Khan in defending nine runs in a final over. This was during one of their recent matches against Rajasthan Royals. “It’s important to get the best out of the players you have got, and that’s what Rishabh has done, despite not having any big international bowlers,” Kaif added.

Kaif further recalled the famous incident from the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Pant used a clever tactic to break South Africa’s momentum.

“In the 2024 T20 World Cup final, when 30 runs were needed off 30 balls with Klaasen and Miller batting, Pant lay down on the ground to summon the physios. By delaying the game, he disrupted the batters’ rhythm. In the final overs, when pressure is high, batters want the game to move quickly, but Pant’s move slowed things down,” said Kaif.
