Hard working Abhinav Manohar shows his finishing prowess

In Gujarat Titans‘ impressive 55-run victory over Mumbai Indians in the 35th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Abhinav Manohar emerged as the standout. The batsman hit three fours and as many sixes in his 42 runs off just 21 balls, rendering MI’s bowlers helpless in the last overs. His performance allowed GT to add 77 runs off the final five overs, which completely changed the course of the match.

For those who are unaware, Gujarat Titans purchased Abhinav Manohar during the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 2.8 crore. The franchise kept him for the same price because of his excellent show. Abhinav was born on September 16, 1994, in Bangalore, Karnataka. In November and December of 2021, the batting all-arounder made his List A and T20 debut. The 28-year-old has played 24 T20 matches and has amassed 488 runs at a superb strike rate of 160.52. His highest score of 70* demonstrates his ability to play a long innings as well.

The GT skipper further added that he improved from his previous mistakes and now the results are there to see.

We spoke to him last year and there were a few things he had to improve on, and this year he’s come out blazing,” Pandya added.

Abhinav said that he feels lucky to be a part of the Gujarat franchise. He talked about self-belief and said that he has been donning the finisher’s role in the domestic circuit. The batter said that he has been gifted with the art of timing and playing the finisher’s role in the IPL feels like a dream.

“Lucky to be in this franchise. We get to bat for as long as we want in the net sessions here. I practice a lot and have a lot of self-belief because of it. That’s paying off. I’ve been gifted to time the bowl well and have been doing it since a young age, to do it at this level feels like a dream. This game I couldn’t start going from ball one because of the situation, but it was good to get my eye in and play my game,” Abhinav said after the match.

Abhinav Manohar came from a modest background, and his coach Irfan Sait stated that the cricketer’s father had a store that sold shoes after the IPL 2022 big auction. The choice to enroll Abhinav in the cricket academy was made by his father, and this is when his life began to change. Abhinav Manohar Sadarangani may have also sustained a brain injury, but being the fighter that he is, he overcame it and is now excelling in the IPL.
