Lauren Down, the New Zealand batter has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against Sri Lanka following back injury. Uncapped Izzy Sharp is the new replacement in the squad. Down also came as a replacement of Bella James who was ruled out due to strain on her right leg.

Lauren Down ruled out

Lauren Down sustained the injury on the morning of the first One Day International in Napier. She has not recovered in time to take part in the rest of the series. Down originally came to the squad as replacement for Bella James. With a grade two quadricep strain on her leg when Bella James was ruled out of the series, Lauren Down joined. But now Izzy Sharp will be joining the ODI squad in place of Dawn on Thursday in Nelson. Sharp was originally picked only for the T20I series.

Meanwhile, Emma Black will also join the squad on Saturday to replace Hannah Rowe who will miss the final game of the series. Hannah Rowe will be the maid of honour at the wedding of her Central Hinds team-mate Mikaela Greig. New Zealand team is already in this series without Sophie Devine due to her break, Molly Penfold due to injury, and Hayley Jansen for injury. No wonder the situation is a little worrisome for the Kiwis.

Revised ODI Squad

Talking about Lauren’s injury, New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer said, “We’re all really disappointed for Lauren to be ruled out of the series.” He added, “Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game and we wish her a speedy recovery. It does provide an exciting opportunity for Izzy to join the group in Nelson for these last two matches and we’re looking forward to welcoming her.”

New Zealand Women’s ODI squad
