<strong>IPL 2023: Kolkata Knight Riders finally reveal new captain</strong>

Kolkata Knight Riders have finally made an announcement regarding their captain. The Shahrukh Khan-owned franchise was on the lookout for a captain as their full-time captain Shreyas Iyer got a back injury ahead of the season inauguration. 

Who is the new skipper? 

Kolkata Knight Riders have named Nitish Rana, the experienced left-hander as their new captain in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. The franchise issued an official statement across all social media platforms stating the appointment of Nitish as the squad’s captain. 

The team’s official statement read that under the guidance of Head Coach Chandrakant Pandit, a seasoned campaigner in domestic cricket, Nitish will have all the support he needs to lead the team with confidence. The support staff, consisting of experienced professionals in the field of cricket, will also play a crucial role in helping Nitish manage the team’s resources and execute strategies effectively.

The team also wished Shreyas Iyer a speedy recovery and hoped that the captain would take the field at some point during the tournament. With the likes of Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Tim Southee, and Shakib Al Hasan on the team, Nitish Rana will have a wealth of leadership experience to draw upon on the field. These players have led their respective teams in various T20 leagues around the world and will be invaluable in helping Nitish navigate the challenges of captaincy in the IPL. 

Who could be Shreyas’ replacement? 

While the franchise has not named any replacement yet, fans have some theories of their own. Fans are speculating that former Australian captain Steve Smith could be Shreyas’ replacement. In a video posted on Twitter, Steve Smith, who had not registered himself for the auction this year, teased that he is soon going to join a team. 

“Namaste India. I have got some exciting news for you. I am joining IPL 2023. I am joining an exceptional and passionate team in India.”, said Smith in his video posted on Twitter. Ever since Smith made this announcement, KKR fans have gone crazy thinking that the stylish right hander could join their team.
