JioStar, the joint venture between Reliance Industries and Walt Disney Company, announced a major financial milestone on Friday. The company reported revenues of Rs 10,006 crore with pre-tax earnings of Rs 774 crore for the latest quarter, marking a strong performance post-merger.
JioHotstar, the newly launched streaming service born from the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, crossed the 100 million paid users mark within just five weeks of launch. Reliance Industries confirmed the milestone in its latest earnings statement, crediting the explosive growth to blockbuster sporting events like the IPL and ICC Champions Trophy.
The platform also recorded 503 million monthly active users (MAUs) in March 2025, driven by India’s largest digital content library featuring more than 320,000 hours of entertainment.
JioStar’s linear TV network secured 34 percent market share across the television entertainment sector, reaching over 760 million monthly viewers nationwide. The network’s dominance strengthened Reliance and Disney’s position in the highly competitive Indian media landscape.
The merged entity controls exclusive TV and digital broadcasting rights for major cricket tournaments, including the IPL and marquee international events.
The IPL 2025 season delivered record-breaking numbers for JioStar.
The company reported:
1.4 billion digital views during the opening weekend (35 percent year-on-year growth)
253 million TV reach (14 percent year-on-year growth)
49.6 billion minutes of combined TV and digital watch time (33 percent year-on-year growth)
In its first week, IPL 2025 on JioHotstar saw a 38 percent increase in overall viewership, including a 47 percent jump in TV video viewers and a 46 percent rise in watch time.
JioStar also celebrated record success with the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
The tournament delivered a 4.3 TVR rating, 23 percent higher than the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, making it the highest-rated multi-nation cricket tournament ever in India. The event peaked at an unprecedented 61.2 million concurrent viewers during the final.
JioStar reorganized its sports channels under the Star Sports umbrella, creating a unified sports broadcasting network of 24 channels. The expansion includes two dedicated sports channels each for Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada audiences, strengthening its regional and national reach.
Star Plus maintained its dominance in the Hindi General Entertainment Channel (GEC) category, featuring six of the top 10 shows.
Meanwhile, regional channels such as Star Pravah, Star Jalsha, Star Maa, Star Vijay, and Asianet continued their reign as the number one entertainment networks in their respective markets.
