Virat Kohli stormed his way to the second spot on the IPL 2025 Orange Cap table. This is after delivering another commanding performance for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kohli’s fluent 42-ball 70 helped him leapfrog Nicholas Pooran in the top run-scorers’ chart, continuing his rich vein of form this season.
Kohli, who notched up his second consecutive half-century, now has 392 runs from nine innings, maintaining an average that keeps RCB’s playoff hopes alive. Gujarat Titans’ (GT) B Sai Sudharsan still holds the Orange Cap firmly, sitting at the top with 417 runs from eight games, averaging 52.12 and striking at an impressive 152.18.
Nicholas Pooran, who once dominated the Orange Cap race earlier this season, slid to third with 377 runs after a lean patch in recent outings. Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Suryakumar Yadav remained close behind in fourth place with 373 runs, showing exceptional consistency without a major breakthrough knock. His innings this season – including scores like 48, 67, 68* and 40* – have cemented his status as one of the most reliable batters.
Jos Buttler of GT and Yashasvi Jaiswal of RR are locked at 356 runs each. Jaiswal, who endured a slow start to the tournament, has found form at the right time, smashing scores of 75, 51, 74, and 49 in his last four outings. Buttler has reached the same tally but with one fewer innings.
Meanwhile, in the bowling charts, Josh Hazlewood’s sensational 4-for-33 performance against Rajasthan Royals propelled him to second place in the Purple Cap standings. He now shares the top spot for most wickets alongside Gujarat Titans’ Prasidh Krishna, both boasting 16 scalps each. However, Krishna holds on to the Purple Cap due to a superior economy rate.
A tightly packed group of seven bowlers trails behind the leaders, all with 12 wickets apiece. The group includes R Sai Kishore and Mohammed Siraj (GT), Noor Ahmad (CSK), Kuldeep Yadav (DC), Hardik Pandya (MI), Shardul Thakur (LSG), and Krunal Pandya (RCB), who joined the group after claiming 2 for 31 against RR.
Among these, Kuldeep Yadav boasts the best economy rate of just 6.50, highlighting his control and precision this season. Noor Ahmad follows closely with an economy of 7.66.
Virat Kohli has emerged as the only player to score over 300 runs in winning causes in IPL 2025. His consistent performances at the top have been instrumental in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victories, underlining his impact and form this season.
The IPL 2025 season enters a critical phase, both the Orange and Purple Cap races are heating up. This sets up the stage for an exciting finish. Fans can expect more thrilling performances as players jostle for top honors in batting and bowling categories.
