Jasprit Bumrah Named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2024

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been crowned the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2024, following his stellar performances during India’s Test series against Australia. Bumrah outshined strong contenders Pat Cummins and Dane Paterson to claim the prestigious award.

Bumrah’s Stellar Run in Australia

Bumrah spearheaded India’s bowling attack with remarkable consistency across three Tests in December. He took a whopping 22 wickets at an extraordinary average of 14.22, proving to be the backbone of India’s bowling lineup.

The series began with a standout performance in Adelaide. Bumrah’s four-wicket haul in the first innings kept Australia’s lead in check, ensuring India remained in the contest. His precision and control made life difficult for the Australian batters.

In the Brisbane Test, Bumrah stepped up again. His six wickets in the first innings dismantled Australia’s batting order, setting the tone for a closely fought-match. He followed it up with three more wickets in the second innings, securing a nine-wicket match haul. His efforts ensured the rain-affected Test ended in a draw, keeping India alive in the series.

The Boxing Day Test in Melbourne saw Bumrah continue his dominance. He took four wickets in the first innings and backed it up with a five-wicket haul in the second innings. Despite his heroics, India’s batting collapse led to a defeat, but Bumrah’s brilliance was evident throughout.

Milestones and Records

Bumrah reached a significant milestone during the series, becoming the fourth-fastest bowler to take 200 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled. Remarkably, he achieved this feat with a career average of under 20, becoming the first bowler in history to do so.
