South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has departed from the Gujarat Titans squad and returned to South Africa due to personal reasons. The franchise confirmed his absence on Thursday, leaving fans wondering about his return to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Gujarat Titans issued a brief statement regarding Rabada’s exit, saying:
“Kagiso Rabada has returned to South Africa to deal with an important personal matter.”
The franchise did not disclose the exact nature of the matter or the expected timeline for his return.
Rabada had played Gujarat Titans’ first two matches of the IPL season in Ahmedabad, where he managed to pick up two wickets. However, he did not feature in Gujarat’s latest match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday, a game in which GT secured an eight-wicket victory.
During the post-match press conference, Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill had hinted at Rabada’s unavailability, stating that the pacer missed the game due to personal reasons.
Rabada’s absence is a major blow to Gujarat’s bowling lineup. The South African pacer, known for his ability to deliver in high-pressure situations, brings experience and pace to the team’s attack. With his departure, Gujarat will now have to rely on their other fast-bowling options, including Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav, and Joshua Little, to step up in the upcoming matches.
Additionally, the team management might explore the possibility of bringing in a replacement if Rabada is unavailable for an extended period.
There is no official word on whether Rabada will return to India for the remainder of IPL 2025. With Gujarat Titans still having several games left in the league stage, his presence could be crucial, especially as the tournament progresses toward the playoffs.
Rabada is one of the most successful overseas pacers in IPL history, with an impressive track record for multiple franchises. His sudden exit raises questions about how Gujarat Titans will adjust their bowling strategy in his absence.
As of now, the team and fans will have to wait for further updates on whether the South African speedster will make a comeback in IPL 2025.
