Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) are in a tough spot in the ongoing SA20. The team, led by coach Lance Klusener, has managed only one win in seven matches. They now need to win their last three games to have a shot at the playoffs.
“I’m concerned about everyone’s form at the moment, including mine,” Klusener admitted after their recent loss to Paarl Royals.
Despite the struggles, Klusener remains optimistic. He believes the team has the talent to turn things around.
DSG reached the SA20 final last year but hasn’t replicated that form this season. Klusener emphasized the importance of focusing on the remaining games.
“We’ve got a group of very good players who just haven’t found their form,” he said. “Rather than dwelling on the past, we’ve got an opportunity ahead.”
Quinton de Kock’s inconsistent performances have been a major concern. Used as a middle-order batter in some games, de Kock has struggled to make an impact. In their last match, he returned to the top order and scored a decent 43 off 30 balls.
“It’s all about balance,” Klusener explained. “We thought using Quinton in the middle order could help create a left-right combination.”
Klusener believes building momentum at this stage can change everything.
“If we can get going, we’ll be tough to stop,” he said. “Teams that pick up momentum towards the end are usually the hardest to beat.”
The arrival of Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis adds to the team’s hopes. Stoinis, who joined after Melbourne Stars’ /
exit, is expected to strengthen DSG’s lineup.
“We’ll need to re-look at the balance,” Klusener said. “Stoinis changes things and opens opportunities for others, like Prenelan Subrayen.”
With just three games left, DSG’s path to the playoffs is steep. Winning all three is their only chance to stay in contention.
Klusener is banking on the players to rise to the occasion. “It just takes someone to light the fire and get them going,” he said.
Durban’s Super Giants face an uphill battle, but in cricket, miracles aren’t impossible. Fans are hopeful the team can deliver and keep their SA20 dreams alive.
