Laura Wolvaardt Appointed Permanent Captain of South Africa Women’s Cricket Team

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially appointed Laura Wolvaardt as the permanent captain of the Proteas Women’s Cricket Team in all three formats. This decision follows Wolvaardt’s successful tenure as interim captain during recent tours against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Successful Interim Captaincy

Wolvaardt, 24, took on the role of interim captain, succeeding Sune Luus, during a period of leadership transition. Her impactful captaincy included leading the team to back-to-back 2-1 ODI series victories. Wolvaardt showcased not only her leadership skills but also contributed significantly with the bat.

Having already appeared in 86 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 59 T20Is, Wolvaardt boasts an impressive record, accumulating 3,421 runs in ODIs with 30 fifties and four hundreds. In T20Is, she has scored 1,313 runs at an average of 32.82, including nine half-centuries.

CSA also announced the 15-player T20 squad set to face Bangladesh on home soil between 3-23 December. Wolvaardt will lead a squad that combines youth and experience, including the inclusion of SA U19 and SA Emerging stars Ayanda Hlubi and Eliz-Mari Marx. Annerie Dercksen, making a comeback after a hand injury, is rewarded for her consistent performances at the domestic and Emerging levels.
