Michael Vaughan and Wasim Jaffer Engage in Twitter Feud Over Wankhede Pitch

A Twitter spat ignited between former England captain Michael Vaughan and ex-Indian opening batter Wasim Jaffer following India’s resounding victory over Sri Lanka in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Vaughan took to the social media platform to emphasize the high-quality batting pitch at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, India’s iconic cricket venue.

So good to be at the Wankhede yesterday .. The best batting surface in #India .. As a local boy @WasimJaffer14 averaged an astounding 7.75 in Test cricket at such a iconic cricket venue ..,” wrote Vaughan on popular social media platform X.

Jaffer’s Home Ground Response

In response to Vaughan’s remarks, Wasim Jaffer, who hails from Mumbai and shares a special connection with the Wankhede Stadium, swiftly fired back. He highlighted that the Wankhede indeed provides an ideal batting surface, but he humorously noted his Test average of 7.75 at the venue. Jaffer’s witty reply shed light on his preference for challenging himself with significant milestones in the game.

“Yes Michael Wankhede is a batting paradise, too bad I missed out in the couple of Tests I played there. Could be because I preferred challenges. Like the challenge of scoring home & away Test 200s or FC 200s & 300s.. but you wouldn’t know any of those feelings so nevermind,” Jaffer responded.

Wasim Jaffer, a seasoned cricketer, represented India in 31 Test matches. He amassed 1914 runs at an impressive average of 34.1, including five centuries. Notably, Jaffer achieved the feat of scoring two double centuries in Test cricket, a testament to his batting prowess. His contributions were vital to the Indian team during his international career.

Michael Vaughan, a prominent figure in English cricket, featured in 82 Test matches for his country. He amassed a total of 5719 runs at an average of 41.4, showcasing his excellence as a batsman. Although Vaughan crafted 18 centuries for England, including a highest score of 197, he was unable to record a double century in Test cricket.
