MS Dhoni Begins Training for IPL 2025

Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has begun training for the IPL 2025. A picture of MS Dhoni practising his batting is making rounds on the social media platform X. Dhoni was wearing CSK’s signature yellow pads throughout his practice session.

Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, Ever since then, the former India captain has been taking part in the IPL only. The 42-year-old was retained by CSK for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, putting to rest any speculation about his retirement.

Dhoni Clears the Air About His Future

The veteran wicketkeeper-batter had already addressed retirement rumours ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He made it clear that he plans to enjoy his remaining cricketing years while maintaining his fitness for the demanding two-and-a-half-month IPL season.

“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play. When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do,” Dhoni said earlier.

A Look at Dhoni’s Recent IPL Performance

In IPL 2024, Dhoni scored 161 runs in 14 matches. His highest score in the season was an unbeaten 37. Despite battling injuries, he smashed 13 sixes and 14 fours throughout the season. However, CSK had a challenging year. They ended the tournament with a group stage exit.

Dhoni gave up CSK’s captaincy ahead of IPL 2024. CSK appointed Ruturaj Gaikwad as their captain. Under Gaikwad’s captaincy, CSK finished at Number 5 in the points table. They won 7 games and lost 7.

With only a couple of months left before the new IPL season, Dhoni has shifted his focus to IPL preparations. He was recently spotted playing tennis at the JSCA. However, now his attention is fully on cricket.
