In a remarkable performance, Pat Cummins took a hat-trick against Bangladesh during their T20 World Cup Super 8 clash in Antigua on Friday. This achievement came just hours after Cummins was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023.
Historic Achievement
Cummins, Australia‘s Test and ODI captain, dismissed Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, and Towhid Hridoy in quick succession. This feat made him the fourth Australian to achieve a hat-trick in T20Is and the second Australian, after Brett Lee, to do so in a T20 World Cup.
The Hat-Trick Breakdown
- 18th Over: Mahmudullah was the first to fall, edging a slower ball onto his stumps.
- Next Delivery: Mahedi Hasan was caught by Adam Zampa at third man for a first-ball duck.
- First Ball of the Next Over: Towhid Hridoy scooped the ball into Josh Hazlewood‘s hands at short fine-leg.
