Babar Azam’s batting position in the Champions Trophy has been revealed. The former Pakistan captain is reportedly going to open the batting for Pakistan in the Champions Trophy. Babar usually bats at 3. However, a final reshuffle before the squad announcement could see Babar as Pakistan‘s opener.
Despite the February 4 deadline for submitting provisional squads, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to announce their 15-member team. They still have until February 13 to finalize their lineup for the tournament.

According to journalist Qadir Khawaja, Babar Azam will likely partner Fakhar Zaman at the top of the order. Fakhar’s return to the squad adds experience and firepower, especially in the absence of young talent Saim Ayub, who is sidelined with an ankle injury.
Babar’s promotion is expected to bring stability to the batting lineup, while Fakhar’s aggressive style will complement his captain.
Test captain Shan Masood and opener Imam-ul-Haq are reportedly set to be dropped from the ODI squad. However, both players are expected to feature as backup openers.
Kamran Ghulam is tipped to bat at No. 3, adding a fresh dynamic to Pakistan’s top order.
One of the most surprising names likely to make the squad is all-rounder Khushdil Shah. After a year-long absence from international cricket, his standout performances in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) have reignited his chances.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Shafique is reportedly not being considered for selection right now. On the other hand, Saim Ayub is likely to miss the entirety of the Champions Trophy with injury. With both regular openers missing, Babar Azam is expected to take on the role of an opener.
Despite a few changes, the squad’s core is likely to remain unchanged. Key players like Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf are all expected to keep their spots.
