The 14th match of India’s premiere 50-over domestic competition saw East Zone take on West Zone in Puducherry on Tuesday, August 1. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, East Zone had a promising start with Abhimanyu Easwaran, Utkarsh Singh, and Virat Singh providing solid starts. However, the middle order struggled to capitalize on the foundation, leaving East Zone at 157/5. 

Stepping up to the challenge, Riyan Parag took the onus on himself to rebuild the innings and steer his side towards a formidable total. Displaying immense maturity and composure, he formed a match-defining 150-run partnership with Kumar Kushagra for the sixth wicket. Parag’s watchful approach in the first half of his innings, where he took 48 balls to reach his half-century, demonstrated his ability to adapt to the flow of the game. 

The young batter’s transformation from a cautious approach to an aggressive one was nothing short of mesmerizing. As the opposition bowlers toiled, Parag shifted gears effortlessly, accelerating his scoring rate and racing to his century in just 66 balls. With five sixes and six fours, he blazed his way to an unbeaten 102 off just 68 deliveries, boasting a remarkable strike rate of 150.

Parag’s breathtaking onslaught ensured that East Zone posted a daunting total of 319/7 in their allotted 50 overs. His second century in the last three games within a week left spectators in awe and earned him admiration from fans across the cricketing world.
