India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, was recently caught speeding on the picturesque Mumbai-Pune expressway, according to a report by the Pune Mirror. The newspaper revealed that Rohit received three traffic challans for overspeeding, with speeds exceeding 200 km/h, and even reaching 215 km/h. The incident allegedly occurred as Rohit was en route to Pune to join his team for the upcoming World Cup clash against Bangladesh.
Rohit Sharma, hailing from Mumbai, continued to reside in the city despite his professional commitments. As the match against Bangladesh is scheduled to take place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, it marks the first-ever World Cup game hosted at this venue. The stadium is situated in Gahunje village, adjacent to the expressway. Previously, Pune has hosted World Cup matches at the city’s Old Nehru Stadium, with one of the most significant upsets in World Cup history occurring in 1996 when Kenya defeated the West Indies.
In the ongoing 2023 World Cup, India, under Rohit’s leadership, has made an impressive start with three consecutive victories over Australia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Rohit himself has been in exceptional form, bouncing back from a duck against Australia with a brilliant century against Afghanistan, scoring 131 runs off 84 balls. In the subsequent match against Pakistan, Rohit’s remarkable performance continued as he scored 86 runs in just 63 balls, breaking the renowned Men in Green’s bowling attack.
The upcoming match against Bangladesh presents a challenge for India as they enter as the favourites, but they have lost three of their last four ODIs against the Shakib-Al-Hasan-led team. Notably, Rohit Sharma has scored centuries in the last two encounters between India and Bangladesh in ODI World Cups, achieving a ton in the 2015 World Cup Quarter-Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and another in a league-stage match during the 2019 World Cup in Edgbaston.
As Rohit Sharma faces his latest challenge on the cricket field, fans eagerly await his performance in the upcoming World Cup match against Bangladesh.
