India Test captain Rohit Sharma is set to make his first Ranji Trophy appearance in a decade. Rohit has been named in Mumbai’s Ranji Team for the match against Jammu and Kashmir. The game is scheduled from January 23-26. It will be played at the MCA-BKC Ground in Mumbai.
Rohit last played in the Ranji Trophy in 2015, featuring in a match against Uttar Pradesh.

Mumbai’s squad will continue to be led by Ajinkya Rahane, with young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also making the team. The duo of Rohit and Jaiswal are likely to open the innings for Mumbai.
The squad also features several international players. This includes Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur. However, Prithvi Shaw has been left out. On the other hand, Sarfaraz Khan misses out due to injury.
During a recent Champions Trophy squad announcement, Rohit confirmed his participation in the Ranji Trophy. “I will (play). It’s important for international players to take part in domestic cricket,” he said.
Rohit highlighted the challenges of balancing international and domestic cricket. “When you play so much international cricket, you need time to refresh. But we’ve addressed it now, and nobody takes it for granted. It’s all about managing workload and staying ready,” he added.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly made it mandatory for centrally contracted players to participate in domestic cricket whenever possible.
Rohit’s return to domestic cricket comes after a tough Test tour in Australia, where he managed just 31 runs in three matches. Speculation over his Test future grew when he opted out of the fifth Test, citing the need for rest. However, Rohit dismissed any doubts, stating, “I’m not going anywhere.”
Mumbai has played five matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. They have won three, lost two and drew one. They currently sit third in Elite Group A, behind Baroda and Jammu and Kashmir.
