Sachin Tendulkar Backs Karun Nair Ahead of Champions Trophy Squad Announcement

Karun Nair has been unstoppable in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy. In Vidarbha’s semi-final clash against Maharashtra, Nair smashed an unbeaten 88 off just 44 balls. His late surge, featuring four sixes and three fours in the final two overs, helped Vidarbha post a massive 380/3. Maharashtra fell short in their chase, giving Vidarbha a commanding win.

Nair’s stats this tournament are staggering. The right-handed batter has scored 752 runs in 8 matches. He has only been dismissed once in the tournament. That makes his average 752, which is the highest in the tournament’s history.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tendulkar applauded Nair’s exceptional performance. He wrote, “Scoring 752 runs in 7 innings with 5 centuries is nothing short of extraordinary. Sachin’d words of appreciation come just one day before Team India’s Champions Trophy squad announcement. Karun Nair mysteriously disappeared from the Indian Team. He was dropped just a few innings following a triple century against England in his third test. With senior batters struggling for form, Nair’s inclusion could provide the much-needed stability in India’s middle order.

The Champions Trophy will begin on 19th February. India will play their first game against Bangladesh on 20th February in Dubai. The BCCI will reveal India’s squad for the tournament on January 18. Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that Rohit Sharma will continue as captain.
