Shakib Al Hasan-Led Bangla Tigers Knocked Out from GT20 Canada After Super Over Refusal

The Shakib Al Hasan-led Mississauga Bangla Tigers have been eliminated from the Global T20 Canada 2024 after refusing to participate in a Super Over during the eliminator match against the Toronto Nationals. The match, which had been delayed due to rain, was scheduled to be decided by a Super Over as time constraints left no room for a full match.

The controversy unfolded when Toronto Nationals captain Colin Munro showed up for the toss, but Shakib Al Hasan refused to attend. The umpires and match referee had decided that the match would be resolved with a Super Over, but the Tigers, unhappy with this decision, chose not to participate. According to tournament regulations, the match was subsequently awarded to the Toronto Nationals, who advanced to the next round to face the Brampton Wolves in Qualifier 2.

The Bangla Tigers were reportedly dissatisfied because if the match had been completely washed out, they would have advanced automatically to the next round, having finished higher in the league standings than the Nationals. Team owner Zafar Yasin expressed his concerns, questioning the integrity of the tournament’s management decisions.

This development means Shakib Al Hasan will now turn his focus to the upcoming Test series against Pakistan, leaving behind a contentious end to his GT20 Canada campaign.
