Shan Masood Sets Unwanted Record, Becomes the First Pakistani Captain to Lose First Four Test Matches

After Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy role in 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board opted for a split captaincy process for the red ball and white ball format. They appointed Shan Masood as the captain of the Test format. Even under his captaincy, Pakistan’s feat didn’t change much.

Shan Masood made his debut as Pakistan’s Test captain against Australia in Perth last year. But his captaincy career is witnessing consecutive setbacks. He registered three defeats against Australia in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. The fourth defeat, by 10 wickets, came against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

With the last defeat, Masood has set an unfortunate record as the first Pakistani captain to lose his first four Test matches. This surpasses the previous record held by Javed Burki, who lost his first three Test matches in a series against England in 1962 before drawing the fourth.

Bangladesh Hammered Pakistan With a Massive Win:

After a lot of T20 cricket, Pakistan and Bangladesh faced each other in a three-match Test series. At the beginning of the Test match, Pakistan batted first. Pakistan was facing struggles. While opening the innings, Saim Ayub scored a half-century and played a knock of 56 runs in 98 balls. Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan were the stars of the team. Both secured centuries and those knocks gave a huge boost to Pakistan’s innings. Rizwan remained unbeaten on 171 runs in 239 balls. 

In the first innings, Bangladesh showcased amazing efforts. Shadman Islam missed his century and played a knock of 93 runs. Mominul Haq scored another crucial half-century. Mushfiqur Rahim played an outstanding innings of 191 runs in 341 deliveries. Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a knock of 77 runs. Even after securing some crucial wickets, the Pakistani bowlers struggle.

In the second innings, the Bangladeshi bowlers were in their best form. They dominated the Pakistani batters since the beginning. Mehidy Hasan Miraz secured 4 wickets just by conceding 21 runs. Shakib Al Hasan also dazzled with the ball. He secured 3 wickets in 44 runs. The other bowlers secured 1 wicket each. They stopped the Pakistani side in just 146 runs. Winning the match was just a matter of time for them. In the 6.3 overs of the second innings, they won the match by 10 wickets. Pakistan faced this huge defeat.
