Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is on track to regain his BCCI central contrac. The Indian cricket board finalizes its list of centrally contracted players for the 2024-25 season. The BCCI’s decision follows Iyer’s stellar performance in India’s victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, where he finished as the team’s highest run-scorer.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia is set to meet India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar on March 29 in Guwahati. The discussions will revolve around central contract allocations, with a key focus on Iyer and Ishan Kishan. Notably, Gambhir, who guided India to Champions Trophy glory, is currently on vacation in France and will return for the meeting.
The timing aligns with an IPL 2025 fixture scheduled at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, where Rajasthan Royals will take on Chennai Super Kings on March 30.
Despite being excluded from the previous central contract list due to missing domestic cricket assignments, Iyer is now poised to reclaim his place. His performance in the Champions Trophy—243 runs in five matches at an average of 48.60, including two fifties—has solidified his standing in India’s ODI setup.
However, Ishan Kishan’s case remains uncertain. While the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter made a sensational IPL 2025 debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad with an unbeaten 106 off 47 balls against Rajasthan Royals. His central contract reinstatement is still under discussion.
“Shreyas is set to regain his contract, likely in a top category. However, Ishan’s situation is still under review.”
With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from T20Is, speculation was rife about their contract status. However, BCCI insiders have confirmed that all three will retain their A+ contracts alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
Rohit Sharma is expected to lead India in the five-Test series against England this summer, while Kohli and Jadeja remain integral to the ODI and Test squads.
Among the other significant contract updates:
Following his retirement from international cricket during India’s tour of Australia last will officially be removed from the BCCI’s central contract list.
With the March 29 meeting set to finalize discussions, the BCCI is expected to officially announce the 2024-25 central contract list in the coming days. The decisions made in Guwahati will shape India’s squad planning for the upcoming Test series against England and beyond.
