The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the Champions Trophy 2025 lived up to expectations as India secured a six-wicket victory in Dubai. Shreyas Iyer played a crucial role in the win, scoring a well-crafted 56 off 67 balls, while Virat Kohli remained unbeaten with his 51st ODI century. Beyond the on-field battle, the match carried added intrigue due to India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan, where the tournament is officially being hosted. Iyer addressed this issue post-match, along with concerns regarding Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami’s fitness after they were seen off the field during Pakistan’s innings.

India vs Pakistan: Shreyas Iyer’s Match-Winning Knock

After restricting Pakistan to 241 runs, India’s chase was built on solid performances from the top order. Shubman Gill (46) provided a steady start before falling at 100/2 in the 18th over. Iyer then walked in to stabilize the innings, building a crucial 114-run partnership with Kohli for the third wicket.

The right-handed batter played with composure, finding gaps and rotating the strike efficiently. He struck five fours and a six before getting dismissed by Khushdil Shah at 214/3 in the 39th over. By then, India was well on course for victory, with Kohli finishing the chase in style.

Speaking about the importance of his role, Iyer said:

“It was a great feeling to contribute in such a big game. Matches against Pakistan always come with extra pressure, but we kept our focus and executed the plan well.”

Why Didn’t India Travel to Pakistan? Iyer Responds

One of the biggest pre-tournament controversies was India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan, where the Champions Trophy is officially being hosted. Instead, the BCCI and ICC agreed to relocate India’s matches to Dubai, citing security concerns and political tensions.

When asked about India’s absence from Pakistan, Iyer shared his thoughts:

“I haven’t played many matches in Pakistan, so I don’t know exactly how it would have felt. But Dubai is a neutral venue, and both teams have to adapt. Any victory against Pakistan is always special because they are a tough and competitive side.”

While India’s relocation sparked debates, the players remained focused on their performances, ensuring that the off-field discussions didn’t affect their preparations.

Rohit Sharma & Mohammed Shami Injury Update

During Pakistan’s innings, Indian fans noticed Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami spending time off the field, sparking concerns about potential injuries.

Mohammed Shami appeared to struggle with his ankle during his first spell and was taken off for treatment. He returned later but bowled only 8 overs, conceding 43 runs without a wicket.

Rohit Sharma seemed to have suffered a minor hamstring issue while celebrating Babar Azam’s dismissal. He briefly left the field but returned soon after.

Addressing these concerns, Iyer reassured fans that both players were fine:

“As far as I know, both Rohit and Shami are fine. There is no injury concern.”

This statement will come as a relief for Indian supporters, especially with crucial matches ahead in the tournament.

Pakistan on the Verge of Elimination

With this loss, Pakistan now finds itself at the bottom of Group A, having lost both of their matches. Their qualification hopes are hanging by a thread, as they depend on other results and need a massive win in their final group-stage game to keep their campaign alive.

Meanwhile, India is in a strong position to advance to the semi-finals, with their next match determining whether they top the group.

What’s Next for India?

With momentum on their side, India will look to maintain their winning streak in the Champions Trophy 2025. Their next group match will be crucial in securing the top spot, and fans will be hoping for another dominant performance.
