Punjab Kings Star Glenn Maxwell Faces Harsh Criticism After Disappointing IPL 2025 Run

Glenn Maxwell, the flamboyant Australian all-rounder representing Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, has come under fire for his lackluster performances this season. With just 41 runs and four wickets from six matches, concerns have grown over his role in the squad, prompting senior Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara to publicly call him out.

IPL 2025: A Forgettable Season for Maxwell So Far

Maxwell, who was roped in by Punjab Kings for a price tag of ₹4.2 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, has struggled to make an impact. In six games, he has managed to score only 41 runs at a dismal average of 8.20. While he has picked up 4 wickets, his all-round performance has fallen short of expectations.

Pujara, speaking on ESPNCricinfo T20 Time Out, didn’t hold back in his assessment.

“The way he bats hasn’t changed much. He’s been a little casual, the same as he was eight-ten years ago,” Pujara remarked.
“There are times where as a player you need to wake up.”

Pujara Calls Out Maxwell’s Attitude

Chetwshwar Pujara, known for his composed and calculated approach, stressed that Maxwell needs to understand the responsibility that comes with representing a franchise like Punjab Kings.

“There’s a fine line between being casual and trying to perform. If it was any other player, they would have been dropped by now. But because he’s Maxwell, he’s still in the XI,” he added.
