Shikhar Dhawan praised his former teammate Virat Kohli for his unmatched discipline, adaptability, and strong mindset. Speaking to Star Sports, the veteran opener opened up about Kohli’s dedication and how he continues to inspire even after more than 15 years in international cricket.
Dhawan recalled how a young Virat Kohli showed remarkable clarity and focus from the start of his career. “When Virat was 18 or 19, he already understood his strengths and stuck to them. He kept refining his game, and that’s why he became so consistent,” Dhawan said.
Shikhar Dhawan also noted that Kohli’s ability to stay positive and disciplined helped him evolve into one of the modern greats. “He never stopped learning. He added the sweep shot recently and kept improving with time,” Dhawan added.
Dhawan admired how Kohli approaches his innings with calmness and intent. “He waits for a few balls, assesses the situation, and then takes control. That’s the hallmark of a champion,” Dhawan remarked.
Dhawan emphasized Kohli’s sharp cricketing brain and consistency, calling him a master of adapting to different situations. “His maturity and game awareness have grown with experience,” Dhawan said.
Even at 36, Kohli continues to deliver in IPL 2025. Despite scoring just 1 run in RCB’s recent match against PBKS, he has already amassed 249 runs in 7 matches at an average of nearly 50 and a strike rate of 141.47.
Kohli also played a pivotal role in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 win, proving he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.
RCB currently sits fourth in the points table and remains in contention for the playoffs, with Kohli at the heart of their campaign.
