As India prepares to face South Africa in the much-anticipated final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, weather conditions in Barbados pose a significant threat. The match, set to take place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on Sunday, June 29, is under the looming threat of a tropical storm, as per the latest updates from the Barbados Meteorological Service.
The Barbados Meteorological Service has issued a statement predicting the arrival of a tropical storm by Saturday. The forecast includes high chances of rainfall throughout the day, with a 78% probability of rain on match day. Additionally, there is a possibility of thunderstorms, further complicating the conditions for the final showdown.
In light of the adverse weather forecast, the ICC has designated a reserve day for the final. If the match on June 29 is washed out, the reserve day on June 30 will be utilized. However, if weather conditions do not improve, both India and South Africa could be declared joint winners of the tournament.
India’s Road to the Final:
India, led by Rohit Sharma, has been in stellar form throughout the tournament. They reached the final after a convincing 68-run victory over defending champions England in the semi-finals. Key performances from Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and the bowling unit have been instrumental in India’s unbeaten run in the tournament.
South Africa’s Journey:
South Africa, under the leadership of Aiden Markram, secured their spot in the final by thrashing Afghanistan by nine wickets in the semi-finals. The Proteas, often tagged as ‘chokers’ in crucial matches, are determined to rewrite history and clinch their second ICC trophy, the first being the Champions Trophy in 1998.
