Umesh Yadav on IPL 2025 Snub: "It Was Shocking for Me"

Pacer Umesh Yadav has finally spoken out after going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. The Vidarbha pacer was listed at a base price of Rs. 1 Crore. Despite that, he attracted no buyers.

Speaking candidly, Umesh said, “It’s shocking for me. Why should I lie? It feels bad. After playing close to 150 IPL matches, you don’t get selected. It’s very disappointing.”

A Career Worth Remembering

Umesh, 36, has represented four IPL franchises—Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans. In the 2024 season, he played seven matches for Gujarat Titans. He ended up taking eight wickets. However, he leaked runs at an economy rate in excess of 10.

Reflecting on the snub, Umesh attributed it to strategic decisions or timing. “It’s upon the franchises and their strategies, or maybe my name came late in the auction, and they weren’t left with money. Regardless, something has happened. I am frustrated and disturbed. But still, it’s okay. I can’t change anyone’s decision,” he remarked.

Determined to Bounce Back

The pacer’s frustrations come after he underwent leg surgery following IPL 2024. Despite the setback, Umesh is determined to return stronger and bowl at top speed. “Till I feel I can clock 140 kmph, I will bowl. When I won’t be able to bowl, I’ll quit cricket myself,” he declared, underlining his passion for the game.

Umesh last played for Team India in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia. Over the years, he has been a key figure in India’s Test lineup, bagging 170 wickets in 57 matches. While he also played 75 ODIs, his last appearance in the format was back in 2018. Umesh has also represented India in 9 T20Is. He has taken 12 wickets. However, his economy of 9.33 saw him being dropped from the team and cut short his T20 international career.
