The Royal Challengers Bengaluru were helped by former captain Virat Kohli to reach a daunting total. Kohli scored a brilliant half-century and ended up with 70 off 42 balls. During his stay, he also crossed the 3500 run-mark at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in T20s. He became the first person to do so at any venue.
Asked to bat first by the Rajasthan Royals, the RCB batters came out all guns blazing. The openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli took on RR bowlers and scored at a brisk rate. They notched up another fifty-partnership, the joint-most by a team this season.
The RCB batters were helped by RR too. Both Salt and Kohli had some close calls against the RR bowling attack, especially Jofra Archer. In fact, Salt was dropped on 1 by the RR captain Riyan Parag.
Kohli capitalised and scored 70 off 42 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. He was equally supported by Devdutt Padikkal, who hammered another fifty off just 27 balls. With contributions from Tim David and Jitesh Sharma, RCB ended up with a total of 205 for 5 in 20 overs. It seems to be a challenging total on a surface that has been sticky.
In his knock of 70 against the Rajasthan Royals, Kohli achieved another milestone. He became the first person to hit 3500 runs at a particular venue in T20s. He brought up the record at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It is important to note that Kohli has played for the RCB since the first season of the tournament and has been a regular feature.
He already held the record for the most runs at a venue in T20s. With his knock of 70, he has further widened the gap between him and the next best.
Kohli ranks at the top of the list of most T20 runs at a venue. He has completed 3500 runs in 105 innings. The second position is held by Mushfiqur Rahim, who has scored 3373 runs in 136 innings. He holds the record at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. James Vince, Alex Hales and Tamim Iqbal are the other players on the list.
