Controversy in PSL, Munro and Rizwan fined after ‘chucking scandal’

Colin Munro and Mohammad Rizwan found themselves guilty of Level 2 breaches of the PSL code of conduct on Wednesday. The players were fined 30 percent of their match fees. They were found guilty of a clause related to “persobal abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee”.

The ‘Chucking Scandal’

The match got heated up for an incident off the bowling off Iftikhar Ahmed. The Pakistan all-rounder was bowling for the Multan Sultans in the second innings. Batting first, Multan Sultans had scored 168 for 5 in 20 overs.

Iftikhar Ahmed was bowling to Colin Munro. As the ball was delivered and Munro defended it, he started miming a gesture at the bowler. The implication of the gesture was that he wsd bowling with an illegal action. This enraged Iftikhar immediately. The bowler went straight to the square-leg unpire Chris Brown to complain.

Munro & Rizwan clash

The gesture caused a controversy. The Multan Sultan players were agitated. Their captain Mohammed Rizwan took on Munro and had a heated argument with the New Zealander. Eventually, umpires tried to calm things down and bring normalcy.

However, botht the players were found guilty of Level 2 breaches. Level 1 breach include aggressive actions or behaviour. It was found that was transpired in the match was outright abuse. Thus, more serious charges were put on the two players. It caused them to lose 30 percent of their match fees.

Iftikhar safe

Despite the incident flaring up because of Iftikhar’s actions, he was not at the limelight of the scene. He was not reported of any illegal action by the umpires. In fact, Iftikhar has never been reported for his action in his career.

Islamabad United win

It was another win for the table toppers Islamabad United. The Multan Sultans, who occupy the last position, still languish there. They are yet to win a game in the season. United won the match by 7 wickets with 17 balls to spare. They consolidate their position at the top with this clinical performance.
