Abrar Ahmed in Contention for Pakistan Squad at ODI World Cup 2023

With the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 just around the corner, Pakistan is considering adding mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed to their squad. The tournament is scheduled to kick off in India on October 5 and run until November 19, with Pakistan commencing their campaign against the Netherlands on October 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The inclusion of 24-year-old leg spinner Abrar Ahmed is being contemplated due to all-rounder Shadab Khan’s inconsistent form in the 50-over format, which has raised concerns for the Pakistani team. A meeting between Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, and the national selection committee was held on September 17 to finalize the squad. The consensus reached by the team’s leadership and selection committee is to make minimal changes, largely resembling the squad from the recently concluded Asia Cup.

Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and Captain Babar Azam are scheduled to meet with Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee, in Lahore on September 18 for a crucial discussion. The final squad selection for this prestigious event will be subject to Ashraf’s approval.

Pakistan to announce the squad soon

The official announcement of Pakistan’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad is expected in the coming week. The selection committee has taken into account the fitness levels of several players recovering from injuries. Unfortunately, Naseem Shah is expected to miss the entire World Cup due to a severe shoulder injury. Considering his fitness, Zaman Khan, Shahnawaz Dahani, Hasan Ali, and Arshad Iqbal are likely to secure spots on the team.

On a more positive note, Haris Rauf, who suffered a side strain during the Asia Cup, is expected to recover in time for the competition. Imam-ul-Haq, recuperating from back spasms, and Agha Salman, who had bruising under his eye, are both on the path to recovery and should be fit well before the event begins.

As Pakistan prepares to announce its squad, fans are eager to see how the team shapes up for this highly anticipated tournament, hoping for a successful campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023.
