Adam Griffith Joins Cricket Australia as Pace Bowling Coach

Cricket Australia (CA) has announced Adam Griffith as the new national pace bowling coach. A former Tasmania fast bowler and experienced coach, Griffith will play a key role in developing Australia’s next generation of quicks.

A New Role for Bowling Excellence

The role, recreated by CA, focuses on managing and nurturing fast bowlers across domestic and international programs. At 46 years of age, Griffith has coached in domestic as well as international tours.

He will work closely with men’s head coach Andrew McDonald and current bowling coach Daniel Vettori. Griffith will also report to Ben Oliver, CA’s head of national teams.

Extensive Coaching Experience

Griffith has an impressive coaching résumé. He’s currently Victoria’s bowling coach and has previously served as head coach for Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes. Griffith also spent time in the IPL with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He worked with top fast bowlers including Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood.

He also has a history of working with emerging Australian bowlers. Griffith guided the rise of Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis, and Beau Webster, and helped Will Sutherland recover from back stress fractures.

Tackling Australia’s Fast Bowling Depth

Griffith’s appointment comes at a crucial time as Australia’s senior pacers—Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood—approach the twilight of their careers. Injuries have also tested the team’s depth recently, with Jhye Richardson and Cameron Green recovering from surgeries.

Griffith’s role includes implementing a national strategy for fast-bowling development, preparing players for international duties, and working as a bridge between CA and state programs.

Griffith will also step in for Vettori during his absences, supporting the Australia A team and the national squad.

Before joining CA full-time, Griffith will finish the domestic season with Victoria. The team, under head coach Chris Rogers, is currently in strong form in both the Sheffield Shield and the Dean Jones Trophy.
