Glenn Maxwell is not known for his consistency. The batter has earned credibility for his potential, which might not translate into runs on most days. Maxwell has had a horrible IPL season so far, and the game against KKR proved to be no better.

Maxwell’s dull season

Glenn Maxwell was signed by the Punjab Kings for IPL 2025. This came after he spent four seasons in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru side. Maxwell had a golden period there as he scored 513 runs in his first season, followed by 400 runs in 2023. In 2024, however, he could score only 52 runs in 10 matches for RCB.

Coming back to PBKS, Maxwell has not performed as the team would’ve wanted. In the five matches played before the match against KKR, he had scored 34 runs. The batter has not been able to contribute anything to his side’s batting performance.

However, with the stellar performances of other batters, including Shreyas Iyer, Piryansh Arya, etc., PBKS have managed so far.

Another failure for Maxwell

In the match against KKR, Maxwell did not do any better. The batter was dismissed for 7 runs off 10 balls. His team was in trouble at the time. He had come in at the end of the poweplay with his side 4 down for 54. However, he could not steady the ship.

KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy bowled a googly to Maxwell, which he couldn’t read. He tried to play the ball on the back foot and push it through the off-side. But the ball came back in to hit middle and off stump.

Doull takes a dig at Maxwell

Simon Doull, a former New Zealand fast bowler, spoke about Maxwell on Cricbuzz. Doull joked and said, “He got one more than his average. Let’s be fair to the bloke (laughs).”

“He just couldn’t read it. He couldn’t read it. It was a really good delivery. And Chakaravarthy, we had that quote from him before the game started. And he’s so true, it’s so right. It doesn’t matter what you see on a computer. You still have to play me. You still have to figure out where the ball is going, what it’s doing,” he added.
