BCCI Announces T20 World Cup Bonus Breakdown: ₹125 Crore Shared Among Players, Staff, and Selectors

Following India‘s exhilarating T20 World Cup victory in Barbados, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wasted no time in announcing a celebratory bonus of ₹125 crore for the team and its support staff.  This announcement marked a fitting conclusion to a tournament where India dominated, becoming the first team ever to win a T20 World Cup without a single defeat.

The win also served as a moment of redemption after India’s heartbreaking loss in the 2023 World Cup final.

A Breakdown of the Bonus Structure

A recent report has shed light on the specific distribution plan for the ₹125 crore windfall.  The players and head coach Rahul Dravid will receive the largest share of the bonus.  As per the Indian Express, each of the 15 players in the main squad, including those who did not see any game time, will be awarded a cool ₹5 crore.  This includes Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained on the bench throughout the tournament.  Head coach Rahul Dravid will also join this elite group, receiving ₹5 crore himself.

The BCCI hasn’t forgotten the crucial role played by the coaching staff in India’s triumphant campaign.  Dravid’s coaching staff – batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip – will each be handsomely rewarded with ₹2.5 crore.  The Ajit Agarkar-led five-member senior selection committee, responsible for picking the championship squad, will receive ₹1 crore each.

Acknowledging Reserve Players and Support Staff

The four reserve players who provided valuable support throughout the tournament – Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed – will not be left empty-handed.  The BCCI has allocated ₹1 crore to each of them in recognition of their contributions.

India’s extensive support staff, including the three physiotherapists (Kamlesh Jain, Yogesh Parmar, and Thulasi Ram Yuvraj), the three throwdown specialists (Raghavindraa Dvgi, Nuwan Udeneke, and Dayanand Garani), the two masseurs (Rajeev Kumar and Arun Kanade), and the strength and conditioning coach (Soham Desai), will be collectively rewarded with a sum of ₹2 crore each.  A BCCI source informed the Indian Express, “Players and support staff have been informed about the amount of prize money they will be receiving from the BCCI and we have asked everyone to submit an invoice.”

The BCCI’s distribution plan ensures that everyone who played a part in India’s historic T20 World Cup victory is appropriately acknowledged and rewarded.  In total, the Indian contingent for the tournament comprised 42 people.  Beyond players, coaches, support staff, and selectors, the video analyst, BCCI staff members, media officers, and logistics manager will all receive a share of the bonus.  This generous gesture by the BCCI highlights the importance placed on teamwork and underlines the collective effort that led India to T20 World Cup glory.
