In a strategic move to bolster their coaching staff, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to name Sairaj Bahutule as the interim bowling coach for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. This decision comes as the BCCI continues negotiations with former South African cricketer Morne Morkel for a more permanent role, though terms have yet to be finalized.
Bahutule, a seasoned figure in Indian cricket, currently serves at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. His interim appointment signifies a continuation of his substantial contributions to Indian cricket, now extending to the national men’s team. Bahutule is scheduled to join the squad and the rest of the coaching team on July 22, as they prepare to embark on the tour.
In addition to Bahutule’s appointment, the BCCI is expected to announce the inclusion of Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and T Dilip in the coaching setup. These appointments are set to be officially confirmed during a press conference coinciding with the team’s departure. The press conference will feature notable figures including Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who will provide insights and address media queries.
The squads for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka have been finalized, featuring a mix of experienced players and emerging talents.
