Gongadi Trisha Hits First Century in Women’s U19 T20 WC

Gongadi Trisha became the first centurion in the history of Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. During India’s Super Six clash against Scotland, the youngster smashed a hundred off just 53 balls. 

Trisha registers new records

Gongadi Trisha, the right-handed batter made history by smashing the first hundred in the history of Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. She smashed hundred off 53 deliveries against Scotland on Tuesday. In the Super Six clash between India and Scotland at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, India won the match by 150 runs. 

The right-handed batter eventually remained unbeaten on 110 off 59 balls with 13 fours and four maximums to her name. G Kamalini and Trisha added 147 runs together for the first wicket before Kamalini was dismissed for 51 off 42 balls. Then Trisha along with Sanika Chalke (29*) took India to a commanding total of 208/1 in 20 overs. In the process Trisha also became part of the record-breaking opening partnership with Kamalini. Their stand of 147 runs is the highest partnership for any wicket in the ongoing tournament. 

Trisha named Player of the Match

During the Scotland innings, Aayushi took four wickets as Vaishnavi and Trisha scalped three wickets each. The highest scorers for Scotland were their openers Pippa Kelly and Emma Walsingham who scored 12 runs each. Scotland were eventually dismissed for mere 58 runs in 14 overs. India thrashed Scotland and Gongadi Trisha was named the Player of the Match.

India had already secured their spot in the semifinals with a win against Bangladesh. Their comfortable 6-wicket win against the neighbours had assured their spot for the next round. India had chased down a target of 65 runs set by Bangladesh in just 7.1 overs. 

Now the defending champions are all set to play the semi-finals on Friday, January 31. The final of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday, February 2.
